Initially, I struggled with Chemistry and often scored low grade 4s. However, with Mr Chan’s guidance and teaching, I managed to improve and eventually attain a grade 6 for my IB exams.Mr Chan is very innovative with his lessons. He keeps always keeps his lessons engaging. For example, for lessons about molecular structure and bonding, Mr Chan brought 3-D figures to help us visualise and understand the topic better. On other days, he would show us informative yet entertaining videos. Even when his lessons were at the end of a long school day, I have always looked forward to and enjoyed them. One of things that I found the most helpful were Mr Chan’s one to one consults. "Mr Chan is one of the most passionate and best teachers in terms of his pedagogy. He takes the time to explain to students concepts in a way that they are able to understand, and he uses analogies to help students better conceptualise the information that might be more abstract especially in Chemistry where it is difficult to draw a relation to how it might be significant in our every day life. He makes Chemistry much more interesting by tapping on the students' intrinsic curiosity to learn more about things that may be relevant to them, and he makes lessons much more enjoyable by getting to know you on a personal level and be interested in the things that you are involved in. His recorded videos of chemistry lab experiments, and 3-dimensional models of the atomic structure, draw on our ability to better visualise pictorial information rather than seem textual information, and he also tells a lot of jokes to make the students laugh which makes his classes much more enjoyable. Close to the exams, he is also very focused on helping you score well for the tests, and gives excellent summaries on commonly-tested but hard-to-grasp topics. However more than that, he instills skills that are much more valuable beyond just exam-taking, which is to understand before memorising, and to always see the big-picture in whichever concepts he is teaching. I am confident that Mr Chan will be able to teach anybody Chemistry given his teaching style, immense patience, and comprehensive understanding of Chemistry concepts, and I would definitely recommend him as a teacher."
